The weather in New York has been... unspeakable lately. We are now several days into April and I've barely seen the sun, it seems to rain off and on constantly, and multiple events I've been looking forward to have been thwarted on an outfit level by truly atrocious humidity/temperature combinations. I'm well documented in saying that my mental health is directly and inextricably linked to the sun, and I briefly lived in the kind of climate where five-plus months out of the year were gray and rainy. I thought by choosing New York City I was choosing never again on the 10-day spring forecast with rainy skies and 48-degree highs, but here we are. We had one brief, ecstatic Saturday that was 75 and sunny, and believe me that I soaked it up like a new sponge. But now we're back in this meteorological malaise, and it's hard not to feel a little depressed.
That said, I have a new romance novel coming out this year, which means that I will be having a hot girl summer by hook or by crook. We're going to have sexy, chic events with great food and flutes of champagne. We're going to celebrate the warm weather reading season, and I personally promise myself that I will spend as many days of that season laying by a pool with a great book in my hand. So in preparation for such a summer, and to give myself something to look forward to as I look out my window at the fact that it's raining a-fucking-gain, I thought I'd bring out my summer recommendations list a little early this year!
So here are some of my best picks across all categories of summer fun:
CLOTHES AND SWIMWEAR
LIVY. Every year, people ask where I get my swimsuits. Every year, I tell them LIVY. Lol.
Wide-leg linen pants. In my mind, there is no single piece of summer clothing more versatile or effortlessly chic than a good pair of wide-leg linen pants. I usually have at least one cropped and one full-length pair in white, and for my money, no one does them better (at a solid price point) than Banana Republic.

I recently discovered Milk Street on TikTok and have already made a few of their recipes. This miso butter pasta is so simple and flavorful (I serve it with whole pod edamame on the side to make it a more well-rounded meal) and I also love this Vietnamese chicken salad.
Another food-related recommendation: this protein powder from Juice Press is truly the most flavorless one I’ve ever tried, which, for me, is the ultimate goal. There’s absolutely no weird stevia-y aftertaste and it blends in seamlessly with whatever food you’re mixing it into.
Do you guys already know about Monty? This is a new-to-me handbag brand, but a lot of the styles are sold out so I must be late to the game here. How cute is this striped mini tote?? I also love this teeny cosmetics case. Happy to report everything seems pretty reasonably priced, too.
